BIKE DOCTOR DETOURS CYCLING CLUB
We are a community of people inspired to adventure and explore life on a bicycle. We support this community with some planned and some informal adventures, some local and some exotic events. We are a non-profit volunteer-run club, with the assistance of our sponsor, the Bike Doctor. Adventure and community await.
Our local rides will be published on the calendar as they are planned. As of early May 2017 we've had Fat Bike rides, and several gravel rides (description below) Watch the calendar, and watch our Bike Doctor Detours Facebook page to see our planned rides pop up. Be sure that there is a group heading out that can accommodate the type of riding you do (descriptions below) We also plan events such as the long-running Moes Triathlon by Bike Doctor, and a fun cyclo-cross event. We also plan trips to places such as Moab Utah.

We provide some organized and lead Fat Bike winter events, and spring gravel rides (see pics on blog) Because we are a non-profit, volunteer-run club we do not have lead rides all the time. But we offer many rides through the year. Our rides are non-competitive and “adventurous” - a little exploration, a little adrenaline, a little of the unexpected to stimulate. We offer different levels of rides, to suit the beginner intermediate and advanced rider. We post on the Bike Doctor Detours facebook site when we have group rides with leaders. See FAQs below to see what group you may fit into. (Also see pics on blog)
COMMUNITY FACEBOOK PAGE allowing BD Detours community members to plan adventures together, and to meet up for last minute rides.
OUR SPONSOR’S MISSION
The Bike Doctor is a group of bicycle adventurers. You probably didn’t know that we have won the Planet S magazine’s voting for the best bike shop in Saskatoon every year but one for the past 11 years, because we understand that the bicycle is more than two wheels, and the bike ride is more than a ride—it’s an adventure. We are a place for that community to gather and grow.
Membership is only $15, and you will get this back a thousand fold. Maybe a million fold. When you sign up online with ccnbikes.com you will also be responsible for an online admin fee of $2, that does not go to the club.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Go to https://ccnbikes.com and search for Bike Doctor Detours on the first page. You will be lead through the process.
DO I NEED TO BE SUPERFIT? No. Our club is not about racing, but adventuring. When we organize races, such as Moes Triathlon, the focus will be on fun and community. Our organized rides do attract some very fit people, as well as people new to the sport with the goal of gaining adventure and outside time. A comfortable speed for a new bike adventure-person is radically different from that of a veteran, so please do take the time to ensure that the ride you are joining has a group that is fast or as easy-going as you would like to go on your adventure.
ARE ALL THE RIDES GUIDED?
No. We have a combination of guided “events,” which will be advertised on this site and our facebook page, and we also use the facebook page to promote less formal rides which will usually have a leader. Optimize your adventure by participating in an advertised group ride that is right for the experience you want, and the level of experience you have. You can always phone Greg at the Bike Doctor 306 664 8555 to make sure that you are going to find a group suitable for your desired adventure.
WHAT LEVELS ARE THERE FOR “GRAVEL RIDING,” AND WHERE DO I FIT IN? (it is almost impossible to have enough groups, because everyone is at a different level on any given day. Choosing the group that best fits your level of skill, experience and desired experience, will help you have the best adventure possible. (It’s recommended to begin riding with a group that may be slightly below your level of skill and experience, helping you to have a positive experience while providing you with a means of determining which group might best fit you)
IMPORTANT! MOVE UP SLOWLY THROUGH THE GROUPS. It is extremely important that you ride in a group that you can stay with comfortably, to maximize your enjoyment, and for the leader to help keep the group together.
There will NOT necessarily always be all groups being lead by a Detours volunteer on every local ride, so read the description of the upcoming ride very carefully. Check out website and our facebook page to get the most up to date notices.
SAFETY ON OUR LOCAL RIDES (rules also apply to events and trips)
-All riders must be members of Bike Doctor Detours, to ensure our lawyers are happy ☺ Drop in’s can sign a waiver for a once-off try it out experience.
-Helmets are mandatory
-EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS OR HER OWN SAFETY. The volunteer leader is there to way-find and help you find adventure—but our leaders are not professional guides. Always check before following someone through an intersection, and never follow anyone into a section that you find scary.
-Be self sufficient with food, water, extra clothing if it might get cold or wet, spare tube, etc.
